Walking for a Cure--Baltimore 2001

In October 2001, I will be walking in the Baltimore marathon (26.2 miles) to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through the Team In Training program. Team in Training provides coaching, training, and fundraising support for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

My motivation to join Team In Training developed through my brother Michael's diagnosis of a brain stem glioma in October of 1998 and his death in September of 1999. He was only 9 years old when he died, and he was truly my hero. Throughout the chemo, radiation treatments, surgeries and other hospital visits, he maintained his sense of humor and love of life. He remains a major part of my life, and my focal point of this huge endeavor I have undertaken. During Michael's visits to the hospital, I realized that he was one of only a handful of children I knew who had a brain tumor, yet I encountered numerous children with leukemia. I decided that raising funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society would enable me to give back such a small part of the love, support, encouragement and hope that my family and I have experienced over the past two years.

My honored patient for this marathon is Kyle Dukes, an 11-year-old from Sumter, SC. I had the honor of meeting Kyle and his family on June 7, 2001, and he is a wonderful individual with a strong spirit and loving family. He has a 4-year-old brother, Jared.

I hope that this website will inform others about the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, its mission and services. If you would like to help me in any way with my upcoming training or fundraising, please let me know.

Please sign my guestbook and let me know what you think of this website!! :-)
